I am a San Diego native, born and raised, and there is no where I would rather live! My passions in life include traveling, adventuring, taking photos, succulent designing, and doing everything I can to make the most out of each day.
I will be turning 23 in Feb. I graduated from California State University San Marcos with my Bachelor's in Communication in Dec 2015. This is where my blog got started...
While in school, a PR firm advised us if we wanted to gain work experience in hopes to get hired after college, start a themed Instagram account around one consistent idea. I thought to myself, what do I like? Well, I like my dog (duh), I like to travel, and I like succulents (the weird cactus flowers). Well, I started my InstaBlog (@thejessicajourney), and from there I launched my blog.
At first, my blog was only on Instagram, but in 2016, I bought my domain (www.thejessicajourney.com). To be honest, I really hate technology, so the first two years of my blog were ugly. I didn't promote my website, I didn't do any SEO (search engine optimization- basically making your website show up on Google), I didn't have an email list, and I didn't even know how to add certain photos to certain locations. I tried to redo my blog multiple times, and even stopped blogging for a couple months because technology is so frustrating.
Jan 2018 I decided to start over... WOW this is a giant project I took on, but now I am here!
My blog is focused mostly on various travels I have done, and local things to do in San Diego. I also occasionally blog about lifestyle things like gift guides, DIY projects, photoshoots, fashion, and succulents- pretty much anything that is going on in my life.
In addition to my blog, I also have several jobs that I work part time. I currently write for several other companies like There San Diego, Cruiseable, and Yours North County. I also audit stores up and down the coast of California. I have several clients I work with to ensure that customer service standards are being met and most importantly, that alcohol stores are ID'ing all customers that look young. I get to go in 'undercover' and evaluate several businesses.
One of my hobbies has been to play around in the garden. I fell in love with succulents, which are a type of cacti that generally look like flowers. I started my succulent business by posting photos of succulent pumpkin arrangements that I had made with my grandmother on social media in 2016. From there, I had corporate requests of larger orders, DIY class requests, and craft show invitations. In 2017, I launched my Etsy. I also launched in two different local San Diego stores ( Pangaea Outpost in Pacific Beach and Apothecary off Main in Vista). In addition, I started receiving invites to teach DIY classes at local bars & restaurants. I now have a full succulent business (In Succulent Love) that I spend a couple days a week doing.
While on a trip in Nashville, TN, we were strolling the tulips at Cheekwood Gardens and enjoying the afternoon. Preston got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! (Obvi I said YES!) We are currently planning our wedding, and living life together in San Diego.
-I plan to expand my blog and focus on consistent content development
-Travel to at least one new location
-A wedding--or at least a planned wedding for 2019
