Butterflies: 9 Photos that will inspire you to visit the Butterfly Jungle
The San Diego Safari Park, formally know as the Wild Animal Park, hosts their annual Butterfly Jungle each spring, running from March 11- April 23. Visitors can walk into a butterfly sanctuary filled with these colorful friends. The brighter color clothing you wear, the better chance they will land on you. Have your cameras ready, these fast little creatures will buzz around in a moment’s notice. Butterfly food is available for purchase, which is watermelon soaked in nectar.
The butterflies are delicate creatures, that are at the end of their life cycle. They start as baby eggs that were laid by the butterflies, turning into caterpillars, then chrysalis, and finishing their lives as butterflies. The Safari Park receives over 10,000 chrysalises each year for their butterfly garden. Each one of them has to be individually placed to ensure they will hatch into butterflies.
While at the park, be sure to check out the Lorikeet Landing, a live aviary filled with colorful birds that you can feed, along with the Cheetah Run, watching the cheetahs run in seconds across a grass field!
